Imagine a world where you have a dog, you love your dog, but you have no hope of accessing or affording vet care for your dog…
You watch your dog get sicker, you watch your dog get pregnant, you try to keep the puppies alive, you fail.
You ask for help, people criticise – “why have a dog if you can’t afford a vet?! ”
But you didn’t go to a breeder and exchange cash for your dog – your dog was born to your neighbour, who also couldn’t access vet care, you took your dog in to try and help.
This was the reality for De Doorns’ township pet owners. This is why we’re determined to keep Sidewalk Steri Clinic’s doors open – to address the issue of pet overpopulation at the roots – to uplift an entire community by providing accessible vet care!
Every dog Sidewalk Steri Clinic treats gets:
- Sterilised – no more puppies born into poverty.
- Inoculated – prevention of disease, dogs live their natural life span, no need for new puppies.
- Dewormed – if a dog hasn’t had parasite treatment, it doesn’t matter how much their family feed it, it will struggle to gain weight.
- Given tick and flea treatment – NexGard South Africa sponsor every single dog we sterilise, we cannot put into words the difference their generosity makes!
- Given a full 24 day antibiotics course – tick bite fever is prevalent in De Doorns. In nine years of rescuing we’ve only had 14 dogs who were tick bite fever free – hence every dog we sterilise receives treatment
- A sponsored Pet Heaven food parcel – a hearty, healthy bag of food to begin their new chapter with
