De Doorns is a rural farming community with an extensive township, widespread poverty and limited access to veterinary services.
Injuries such as fractures/breaks from road accidents, abuse, or fights are common amongst the township animals. For many owners, the cost of transport and private vet fees is simply out of reach, leading to delayed treatment, unnecessary suffering, and in severe cases, euthanasia of animals that could have otherwise been saved 😔
Sidewalk Steri Clinic has always been committed to closing that gap. But without an on-site X-ray machine, fracture cases had to be referred to private vets hours away — stretching our welfare funds and limiting the number of animals we could help. 💔
That’s all changed, thanks to the incredible generosity of the EMS Foundation who have sponsored a brand new, state-of-the-art X-ray machine! And thanks to our wonderful loyal supporters, all the safety equipment needed to operate it is fully covered too. 🙌🏻
This is a game-changer for De Doorns. Sidewalk Steri Clinic can now deliver faster, more accurate, and more accesible veterinary care to hundreds of township animals — right here, without the wait, without the referral costs, and without animals suffering unnecessarily. 🥰
The savings from eliminated external costs will also allow us to sterilise an additional 200–300 animals every year, preventing thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens from being born into hardship. 👏🏻
Thank you to the EMS Foundation for this transformative gift — empowering our clinic, our community, and every animal in De Doorns who deserves a chance at a healthy life. 🐾
